Kevin and Alysia Berg had their Maui wedding on December 23, 2000 and Makena Cove. Ten years later, they returned to renew their vows on December 23, 2010 also at Makena Cove. It was exciting to see them again and have the opportunity to see their children as well.

“Because it was 10 years ago,” said Kevin, “I don’t recall why we chose Maui Me. But we know all we had to do was pick from the menu of options and a call or two to the staff and we were done. It was easier than a traditional wedding. And our wedding was so wonderful that we knew we wanted to come back and do it all over again.”

This time the Bergs brought their two daughters with them, appropriately named Makena and Lani. We enjoyed doing the ceremony for them and putting together a short video which you can see right here.

About the vow renewal, Kevin said: “With just a couple of phone calls our renewal ceremony was done. Susan was very helpful getting everything coordinated and perfect. John made the ceremony special and the video and pictures turned out great.”

Kevin and Alysia and their daughters live in Texas and it is exciting for us that they chose Maui Me when they came to Hawaii to have their both Maui wedding and their vow renewal. We feel honored that they not only chose us for their wedding but that they came back ten years later and chose us again.

When the economy goes down, people tend to hold onto their money longer so that they’ll have more of a backup. Consumer savings which had been average about 1% now has jumped up to about 6%.

While this is good, this slows down the economy because people are holding off on their purchases and buying less things. But an interesting thing is happening. As couples spend less, save more and get out of debt, they find that their happiness has increased. A recent online article from the New York Times analyzed what makes people happy. I found the conclusions to be quite interesting. Here are three things that I gleaned from the article that you should consider as you think about a Maui wedding.

1. Marriage is one of the most dramatic happiness boosters. Being intimately involved with your lover inside a committed relationship generally adds dramatically to a couple’s happiness. When times are tough, a close relationship with your spouse provides an even more powerful impact upon your happiness. Certainly this is a good reason to get married now rather than
putting it off.

2. Experiences are more important than things. When you purchase something like a car or a couch, the excitement tends to wear off quickly. But attending a concert together or going on vacation tends to provide longer lasting memories which make us happier than the purchase of most objects. This is why what you receive from a simple marriage on the beach in paradise far
exceeds what you might spend.

When we go on vacation we take our cameras. And the photos we bring back clearly remind us of the fun we had. When you come to Hawaii and get married, you will likely have photography shot of your wedding and maybe even a short video of it. These contribute so much to help you remember and savor the experiences, making it easier to refresh those memories over the years.

3. When you make a purchase, take your time and think about it more. The Times article stated that you’ll get more pleasure out of any purchase that you focus on longer. Planning and dreaming about something tends to increase your satisfaction level and make the happiness that it gives you last longer.

How true this is for Maui weddings! Couples who spend time thinking ahead about their beach wedding and all of the fun things they’ll get to do on their honeymoon are going to have better memories than those who just show up.

With this in mind, I think you should seriously consider how you can increase the romance of your special day. Think about those little things you can do to improve your pleasure levels. You don’t have to spend a ton of money. Instead, concentrate on making certain you have ordered those simple things that will embellish your memories and make your happy in the long term.
This would include photography, maybe having a video and even things like having a butterfly release.

Finally, I would encourage you to think, plan and fantasize a lot about your upcoming wedding and honeymoon. Get more involved by making comments on this blog (below). Our Hawaii Travel Secrets to Save You Money

Before you book your flight to Hawaii from the mainland or reserve your Maui lodgings, talk to me. I am also a licensed travel agent with my own Hawaii Travel website. I have booked travel for a large number of our wedding couples (and their families). Here are some of my Hawaii travel tips:

Don’t trust the “stars”. Those little stars in the online travel brochures don’t tell the full story. I can give you extensive feedback from my couples as to which accommodations are best.

Stay on the south side of the island. Why? Because West Maui is getting more and more crowded with traffic congestion. This could impact your getting to or from your South Maui wedding location (or make it difficult for us to reach you if you are getting married on the West Side).
